This made me question everything

Reasons for and against going after your dreams.

“What’s holding you back from going all in?” – he asked me.

And by him I mean a stranger on LinkedIn who I mentioned to that I’d like to become a solopreneur & freelancer.

He made me think. And for the first time, something clicked in my head.

Why don’t I go all in?

Here are 4 main reasons I came up with:

  • comfort

  • the safety of a steady salary

  • imposter syndrome

  • fear

Are these good enough reasons not to try? I don’t think so.

So… I flipped the question:

What’s actually speaking for going all in?

  • I want to have control over my life and what i do

  • I want future financial freedom

  • I want to do more of what I enjoy and have time for hobbies

  • I have built a personal brand that has potential

  • I miss creating for me, not only for others

  • I have a few months of savings and… if not now, when?

So, here I am.

Soon-to-be (full-time) jobless.

A bit confused. A bit scared.

And — dare I say it — excited?

A month after that conversation, I quit my job. The one I actually quite enjoyed, with people I liked, doing work I cared about. Some might call that crazy. And maybe it is.

We’ll see in a few months :’D

When I shared that other than being excited, I’m dealing with some anxiety and imposter syndrome in this transition phase to a friend, he replied:

"Imposter syndrome is fake! It's a lie, don't listen! I personally reckon you'll do great anyway"

Worthwhile things aren’t always easy, and that’s just how it is. This is why I’m naming this community & newsletter: launch/anyway. Because sometimes you just have to do the thing… scared.

Do it before you’re ready. Follow your gut, even when fear is dragging you in the opposite direction.

Here are 5 things I’m actually really excited about:

  • deciding how I spend my time

  • not following anyone else’s schedule

  • choosing projects and clients I like

  • working from anywhere

  • focusing on things I love doing

Your turn:

What’s something you want to go all in on, but haven’t yet?

Thanks for reading the first ever issue of launch/anyway.

And if this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts or any words of encouragement – just reply and say hi.

If you’d like to see more of me day-to-day, we can connect on Linkedin. There I share my thoughts, advice, templates & learnings on solopreneurship & marketing 3-5 times a week.

Until next time,
Maria
