Life is long (hopefully)
in detours we trust.

I’ve been thinking about how many different lives we get to live — if we let ourselves.
This one’s a little throwback and a reminder to not box yourself in too much because you can be more than one thing.

At 5, I played violin.
At 7, added piano.
At 10, I joined the school orchestra.
At 12, performed in musicals.
At 13, I moved from Russia to Germany.
Added singing lessons & choir to my days.
Safe to say music dominated the first part of my life.
At 17, I applied to study opera and got rejected.
But that’s when I realised:
I didn’t even want to study opera because it was my one passion and I didn’t see life without it. I just thought it was the next logical step.
At 18, I started my Bachelors in Musicology & Russian Literature (to hopefully figure out what I wanna do for a living).
Wrote my thesis on brain wave synchronisation & music psychology (yes, really 😄).
Got the highest grade and I guess I was good at it.
But didn’t see myself in research.
At 19, I started a part-time job as a hotel receptionist.
Then randomly joined a startup and worked in 5 departments over 2 years.
That’s how I stumbled into marketing.
It excited me.
So I started a blog. And a YouTube channel.
Took free online courses.
Got my first marketing job without a business degree (proud of that).
Still decided to later move to Dublin to get a formal business education.
Did a Master’s at Trinity College. Class times.
Back to Berlin. Founding marketer at a startup.
At 25, I got obsessed with sports for the first time ever.
Doing calisthenics, acrobatics, boxing & more, often 7 times a week.
At 26, I grew my LinkedIn to 20k followers (say what? 😭).
Quit my job to do content & consulting full time.
I love this phase of my life.
What comes next?
We shall see.
The takeaway
Life, if we’re lucky, is long.
Or short — which actually means we really need to find out what we want to do and just go for it.
Either way, it’s never too late.
Learn new skills. Pivot.
Let go of the version of yourself that made sense five years ago,
but doesn’t anymore.
You’re allowed to reinvent.
Hundreds of times, if that’s what it takes.
I know I will change many more times. And you will.
Life will take its course.
I may do another 360, who knows?
We just need to trust, listen, and do the thing.
That’s all 🤍
Question for you
What’s your past hobby or dream that you may need to let go of because it doesn’t serve you anymore?
To all of the multi-passionate, career-changers, late-bloomers, curious people.
You’re doing great. Continue as you have and trust your gut.
Talk soon,
Maria
